SEED INTO LIGHT
a winter solstice ritual of movement, rest and poetry
For women who feel the call to tend to the dark and the deep – especially amidst the rush of December – to slow down, to move with presence, to listen inward, and to meet the returning light from a place of sensuality, presence, and community.
As we arrive at the threshold of the Solstice – the longest night of the year – we gather in community and attunement. In this turning point between endings and beginnings, the light of the new cycle stirs, quiet and unseen. Like seeds lying in the belly of the earth, we rest in darkness that is not empty but full of potential – holding the whisper of what is yet to come.
This gathering is an embodied passage – from darkness into glimmering light, from movement into stillness, from sound into silence, from expression into deep listening. Through gentle movement and sensual dance, we attune to the rhythms of the body as to the turning of the earth, allowing what has been held to soften and what wishes to emerge to take shape.
“Don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It’s quietly getting ready to be spring.” - Rumi

To honour this turning of the year, we will share my Persian tradition for the winter solstice (Persian: Shabe Yalda) – offering and eating pomegranate seeds and nuts, symbols of life, sweetness, and the light that lives within the dark.
In that same spirit, we too will share poems – as openings into the vastness of our inner worlds, as invitations to let language become light.
Together we remember that what we tend within us nourishes the whole – that the warmth of community, like the seed beneath the soil, carries the promise of renewal.
Each seed we taste becomes an offering – for what will be nourished, for what is waiting to awaken. -
